Poetry Essay

     Poetry has the power to get into people's hearts and mess with their emotions. Poetry is a form of writing which helps humans connect with other humans. Katy Perry can express her emotions through her songs such as "Hot and Cold" and "Firework." Poetry shares and connects us with the emotions and experience we all have as humans with the tone , figurative language, poetic structure, shift, and theme found within the piece of writing.
     Katy Perry is well known for her great songs. One of her songs "Hot and Cold" expresses the theme of relationships that are indecisive like the tone. Other humans could connect to her story and have been through similar experiences as her as well emotions. Her use of justapositions such as "cause you're hot then you're cold" helps her and others relate to the same theme of a person changing.
     "Firework" is another master piece of Katy Perry's which allows her to connect with her fans. This song creates the theme of motivation and going above and beyond to become the person of one's dreams. "Let it shine... like the Fourth of July" is Katy's way of saying that one must give their best to become the best of the best. Her tone of greatness and theme of motivation easily helps her connect with her fans to tell them they can be whoever they want.
     The power of poetry is able to express one's emotions to connect with other human's emotions. The power of songs is able to connect the singer to the fans. In Katy Perry's case her songs "Hot and Cold" and "Firework" use specific themes, tones, and literary devices to be one with her fans.

Putting it all Together, Quesion 3i agre

     I agree with the quote "we all have our social imagination: the capacity to invent visions of what should be and what might be in our deficient society, on the street where we live, on our schools?" The reason I agree with this quote is because I believe that people are able to imagine what life should be like. Many people imagine life of being kind with no disaters but in reality many horrible things happen. People may change specific situations such as car accidents, embarrassing moments in front of a big audience, or the death of someone. These people would change the situations they were in into something more favorable and pleasing to them. The new invented situation would not be as horrible as the previous and actual situation.
     The society we live in today is a lot different from the society our ancestors lived in. Now we have several issues that did not exist back then such as ebola, ISIS, and more. People like to imagine that the desease of ebola does not become the next black plague. People also like to imagine that the problem with ISIS disappears and no more issues with them are involved. In a world without these issues people would be happier and less afraid of the death threats. Another real world example of a horrible situation people would reimagine is the kid without homes and food. People now imagine that these kids are suffering and are sad to live the way there. People are imagining the correct thing. These people want to imagine that the kids will have a place to live in the near future with plenty of food to feed them and the rest of their families. Hopefully in the future with all the organizations that exist to help the kids in need will raise enough money to help these kids.
     The quote "we all have our social imagination: the capacity to invent visions of what should be and what might be in our deficient society, on the street where we live, on our schools?" is correctly represents what people do when a society is corrupt. People like to pretend and imagine that everything is alright without any trouble but in reality society is very screwed up. There are many issues that need to be fixed and some people may fix these issues with their imaginations. The human mind is open to many worlds worlds that please people and worlds full of disasters. People like to think about the invented visions of the good type of world.

Blindness and Sight

In Oedipus the King, the idea of blindness and sight reoccures all throught the story and is used to express the pursuit of knowledge. Oedipus is blind due to the fact that he doesn't know he's the murder of the the king. He is very angry and says "let the man drag out but his life in agony, step by painful step." If he were to find out the truth he would fill up with different emotions. The feelings would be anger due to him being the murderer and nervousness due to him thinking of what may happen if others figure out he's the murderer. Oedipus also calls himself "Oedipus the ignorant" because his action of slaughter was done under not much information of others. Having sight leads to being ignorant but being blind leads to knowledge. Once Oedipus found out he killed his father and married his mother he stabbed his eyes out with a sword. Him blinding himself is part of the pursuit of knowledge since he knows more of what's happened. After all of this took place Oedipus just wants to get away from everything, "he will grope his way toward a forign soil, a stick tapping before him step by step," as said by Tieresas. The motif of blindness and sight & pursuit of knowledge tie in with one another in Oedipus the King as blindness and sight are what leads to th gain in knowledge. Oedipus had sight until he found out the truth of his family, he became blind after learning the truth and will learn more as a blind person.

The Truth

   The past, present, and future can lead us to the truth in many ways. We can find out the truth to something by learning about things that happened in different parts of time. Each part of time can hold specific information that can bring a person closer to the truth. The more the person discovers the more he would learn and the closer he will be to the truth. As people find out more about what they are looking for the clues they've found will lead them to more clues and more and so on. The truth will be hard to discover without the information found in the past, present, or future.
   Seeking out for the truth can be very challenging as seen in the movie "National Treasure: Book of Secrets." This movie is movie about a man named Ben figuiring the secrets of the death of Abraham Lincoln. Ben knows that his family did not take place in his assassination so he wants to prove this to everyone and reomove his family name from history. Ben had to go through a lot of trouble to do so. He had to kidnap the president in order to get ahold of the book that would lead him to the truth. The book was written in the past and was a big part to finding out the truth. The information that was discovered by Ben in the present was also very useful to finding out about the book and the facts found within it. The future is when his family name is cleared from the assassination of Ahraham Lincoln. All of these different parts of times which include the past, present, and future lead to the truth by working together to give out the correct information and in Ben's case it is to clear his family name due to the mistake people made about the death of Abraham Lincoln.
   The truth can and will be found after the past, present, and future. I will find out my true future after my years at the university which is my early future. My present knowledge will lead up to my years at college. What happened in past is what led me to where I am know and where I will go in the future. The future is effected by both the present and the past. The present is effected by the past. Each part of time ties in with another and is being effected to find out the truth.

Oedipus Rex

The story of Oedipus Rex is a story that puts the reader to think. The characters in the story perform different actions that cause the readers to reflect over what they have just read. There is big dramatic irony that fools with the reader's mind and makes us not want to know about it. Oedipus Rex killed his father, married his mother and then had four children with her. Today this type of action would not be accepted. The irony is spreaded all over the story. Oedipus demands that the person who killed the previous king, his father which he did not know at the time, shall be found and killed due to his murderous actions.The bad knews was then given to Oedipus by Creon through plots that went against him. Jocasta, his mother, then told Oedipus what happened several years ago. Jocasta said " there was an oracle once that came to Laius, and it told him that it was fate that he should die a victim at the hands of his own son, a son to be born of Laius and me,"... "the thing he feared, death at his son's hands." If King Laius were still alive he would regret not killing his son rather than just cutting his ankles. If Oedipus were dead he would not have died and hos son would not marry his wife. Jocasta then felt sad of the death of Laius and decided to kill herself in her bedroom by hanging herself on a noose. Oedipus walked in and saw that she was dead so decided to stab his eyes out. The whole story revolves around the idea of destiny. The Oracle knew what was going to happen in the future. Everyone's destiny may not be the most favorable but it's still destined to happen. No matter how good or bad a person's destiny is it will happen. The story of Oedipus Rex is very interesting and dramatic. The problems that took place were very uncommon at the time and is still uncommon today but is more seen. These problems are still odd no matter when or how many times they were done.

Symbolism of the American Dream

The significance of symbolism within Fitzgerald's critique of the American Dream in "The Great Gatsby" is to tell us that there's hope in life as represented by the green light. The eyes in the Valley of Ashes are the eyes of "God" which could see all of the lies and know what's truly going on. The Valley of Ashes is found in between of both rich locations because it represents what the rich had to go through in order to become that wealthy. They had dirty jobs, a type of job that is illegal, to earn that money.

The American Dream

The American Dream is achieving life goals and becoming who you want to be. It's also about receiving respect and having power to do whatever pleases you. The American Dream is also about making your life better and changing it to suit you. In the end, The American Dream will completely change your life.

Was Richard Parker Real?

Richard Parker was not real. He was just a symbol for Pi's wild side. Storytelling is used to give lessons or purpose to life, like in the "Life of Pi" Martel's purpose for writing the novel was to twll his readers that iur lives have meaning. The number 3.14 is not only a number but it is a number that represents different religions. Every religion has three things in common and every religion has no limit to how far one can believe like the endless number Pi. In the end, the "Life of Pi" is magical realism because a human cannot spend several months in the ocean with a tiger.

Life of Pi & Magical Realism

The "Life of Pi" is a work of magical realism because a human would not be able to survive on a boat alone with a tiger for 227 days. The story also had supernatural activity happening along the whole plot. Pi was in three different religions and was participating with each thought the story. Another reason the "Life of Pi" is a work of magical realism is because in the movie the settings seemed very real as if they could happen but in reality it was just the people from the wrecked ship that were with him. Pi thought of the crew members as the animals of the zoo he knew. In the end, Martel was only trying to tell us that our lives have meaning and he showed this by placing Pi in though situations throughout the story.

Reader Autobiography

People read to be entertained and to have something to talk about with their friends. A reader is a person who reads on their own time and wants to read to grasp more knowledge. In order to receive the title of a reader one must be able to read about anything and everything. If someone wants to become a "good" reader that person would have to learn how to read any kind of text. My favorite author is Suzanne Collins because in her Hunger Games series she used very good plots that helped one event fit ith another. I consider myself a reader because in everyday of my life I have to read something at some point of time, going from a a small question to an entire packet full of paragraphs. I consider my reader but I do not consider myself a "good" reader because I do not read books unless I have to and reading big texts voluntarily is not one of my favorite things to do. A "reader" would be part of my identity and would describe me more than a "good" reader. When I read voluntarily I read questions for homework, essay prompts, etc. and a "good" reader reads what he wants when he wants to. I learned how to read from my school and from my parents. They would always read to me and teach me how to spell out words to read. As a reader I am neither blocked or passionate because I like to read but not very much, but if I had to choose I would consider me blocked because I do not read unless necessary and I am not really passionate about reading. As a reader I would like to improve my pace at which I read because at the moment it's descent but if I read faster that would be beneficial in the long run. When I read I read about mysteries, adventures, and anything else that interests me. I enjoy reading about adventures the most because when I read about them it seems as if I am there. I am required to read boring stories that do not interest me and are just for me to read for a grade. The readings that I fear would have to be the ones that are worth a major grade in school and also the readings that are big and confusing. What I gained from this reflection of me as a reader is that I am a reader that likes simplicity and small texts. This process was fun because I got to reflect upon myself being a reader.

Writer Self-Study

Writing is a way for people to express their feelings and let out what's on their minds. It's also a way for people to escape from reality and find a world where no rules apply. Writers are people who write about their thoughts and are people who have the ability to keep on writing about more ideas. They can also go deep into there writing and go beyond the topic. In order to be given the title of a writer one must exceed expectations and not be afraid to really go deep. To become a good writer someone has to be simple with their writing and be understandable for others to easily grasp what is placed in front of them. My favorite writer would have to be Suzanne Collins because she creates good plots in the Hunger Games series and knows how to create suspense. I consider myself a writer that goes beyond what is expected and better than a good writer. A "writer" is part of my identity because I can write about ideas out of the box and about prompts/topics that are given to me. When I was younger I learned how to write from watching educational kid TV shows or from learning from my parents and/or teachers. I wasn't only writing in english I was also writing in spanish. Learning how to write in both languages really helped when I first started to write. Now I would consider myself a prolific writer due to the fact that I like to write a lot more than what is expected. As a writer I would like to go even deeper in my writing. I would also like to bigger open-mind that would lead me to other points. The kinds of writings I choose to do are over fiction rather than non-fiction because somebody cannot be limited with creativity and can e limited with facts. Fictional writing I enjoy because I can come up with stories that no one has ever heard about. For example, a dog living inside a cat that has fur made out of bacon. Most of the time I'm required to write about facts of a historical event or write about what I read in a book. The kinds of writing I fear the most would have to be about true things because I would need to know the information in order to write rather than just writing freely. This excercise helped me gain information about my type of writing style. My approach to writing is that it's simple as long as I can write over whatever I want. This process was interesting and fun because I learned about my type of writing style, what good writers are, and where my interest for writing came from. I am a writer that can go beyond from what is expected and a writer than can be creative when appropriate. My past had a great impact to the type of writer I am today. I am a writer.

A snake or a hat?

A story of a hat is not as interesting as a story with a snake that has eaten an elephant. Even though a story about a hat would be more believable the story with the elephant would be more appealing to the reader and catch the person's attention. The story of the snake and elephant would lead to a better story because a snake eating an elephant is not the easiest thing in the world. The snake would have to come up with different ways for it to eat the elephant. The snake cannot simply eat the elephant it would have to come up with a step-by-step plan in order to eat the giant elephant. The hat would be the "lifeless factuality" as it has no life. The hat is an abiotic object that cannot do anything but to symbolize something.
